Last year the Parents Bill of Rights, or Initiative 2081, brought forth by the extremist group Moms4Liberty, went into effect despite concerns regarding the outing of LGBTQ+ students.

A Washington citizen’s initiative, passed during Pride Month, that may increase the risk of abuse and violence of LGBTQ+ students was recently highlighted by Moms for Liberty (M4L) in its 2024 impact report.

Although Washington is generally considered a safe state for the LGBTQ+ community, on Dec. 11, state Rep. Cyndy Jacobsen (R-25) prefiled House Bill 1038, which would prohibit the use of puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and gender transition surgeries on minors.
